Vinod Kumar Shukla (born 1937) is a highly respected signature of Indian Hindi literature. By engaging himself in poetry and fiction, he created an unprecedented language in which surprise, pleasure and concern go hand in hand – without hampering readability. He has published nine collections of poems, four collections of short stories and six novels. His works have been translated into almost all the major languages of the world. He has been praised and awarded for his work in theatre and cinema. Vinod Kumar Shukla, recipient of the ‘Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh Fellowship’, ‘National Maithilisharan Gupt Award’, ‘Shikhar Samman’ (MP Government), ‘Hindi Gaurav Samman’ (Uttar Pradesh Hindi Institute), ‘Raza Award’, ‘Dayavti Modi Kavi Shekhar Award’, ‘Raghuveer Sahay Memorial Award’ and ‘Sahitya Akademi Award’ for ‘Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi’, has been awarded the prestigious PEN/Nabokov Award for the year 2023 for his achievement in international literature.
