If you ask me how I prefer to dance, I would say in silence, naked like truth. Patrizia Cerroni

For the young Patrizia, home was where the hurt lay, so she immersed herself in dance, a refuge through which she found both expression and self-discovery. As a rebel artist experimenting with various styles in contemporary dance under the tutelage of renowned masters, like Jean Cebron and Merce Cunningham, she found a distinctive voice and style as a dancer and choreographer for which she has been much feted globally. Dance Naked Like Truth captures the zeitgeist of 1970s Europe, especially Italy, along with her collaborations with some of the greatest artists of our times such as Charles Mingus, Zakir Hussain, Giacinto Scelsi, Mario Schifano, Michelangelo Antonioni and Fabio Mauri.

This unfiltered memoir is not only a bold account of the travails and trauma of an avant-garde artist, but also a celebration of the creative expression in which dance is presented as a radical, total and absolute experience.

Free-spirited, courageous, unconventional and non-conformist, Patrizia Cerroni delves deep into the complexity of our existence at the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms, especially the artist s need to escape into art. As Patrizia strives to achieve the balance between the artist and the woman in her, we find ourselves immersed in a story about love and loss where we realize that recognizing one s own value is the most difficult of achievements and understand why it is important to always raise the stakes in life.

About the Author

Recognized by international critics as an exceptionally brilliant dancer and choreographer, Patrizia Cerroni is an extraordinary artist who has dedicated her career to inventing an entirely new choreographic language based on improvisation and interpretation of emotions. Her vital, expressive, spontaneous and passionate creativity crosses artistic boundaries and embraces many artistic genres. She cleverly blends influences from both Eastern (in particular Indian) as well as Western (American) traditions in her performances. Patrizia has studied classical dance at the National Academy of Dance, Italy, modern dance and American modern dance. She is the founder of the dance company Patrizia Cerroni & I Danzatori Scalzi, and the recipient of many prestigious international awards like the Silver Targa from the President of the Republic of Italy, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, for her commitment to the training of the young. She has participated in the most significant international theatres and festivals, and has given more than 2000 performances. In over forty years of her career, Patrizia has trained more than 300 professional dancers and 20 choreographers.
