About the Author: Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay is one of the most accomplished writers of modern Bengali literature. A critically acclaimed writer of adult fiction, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay gained popularity for his fiction and science fiction books for children and young adults. He is best known as a most-loved ghost story writer in Bengali. His popular children’s fictions include Adbhuture, Manojder Adbhut Bari, Pidimer Alo, Sada Beral Kalo Beral, Nrisingha Rahasya, Chhayamoy, Goynar Baksho, Gosain Baganer Bhoot, and Patalghar among many others.

He received the Vidyasagar Award in 1985 for his contribution to children’s literature. He also received the Ananda Puroshkar twice (1973 and 1990). In 2012, he received the Bangla Bibhushan Award.

About the Translator: Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee dons numerous caps as scholar, translator, editor, and cultural administrator. But his first love lies in translations from one Indian language into another and into English as a way for better understanding of the literature and culture of different regions. He is also fascinated with children’s literature and has successfully bridged the expanding gap between generations through translations. His most notable translations are Mahasweta Devi’s The Armenian Champa Tree, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay’s The Ghost of Gosain Bagan, and Sunil Gangopadhyay’s The Dreadful Beauty.
