Prisoners of Time by Christopher Clark
A book that picks up several consequential topics with a historical background. Most of them have a reference to Germany. For example, the connection between the Nazis and German aristocracy-hint-they took to him big time, even though they would not have socialised with him if he was not HITLER.
There is another on long running debate among historians in assigning blame for starting WW1. The common belief is that it was Germany;however, more research makes this into a more complex matter. The author is at the forefront of this debate and explains the view point. I found this book when I was short of reading material and it had nice essays, written engagingly.
