BELA NEGI BOOKS
Bela Negi is an Indian filmmaker, writer and producer whose creative work explores the complex realities of life in Uttarakhand and the Himalayan region. Based between Mumbai and Nainital, she has spent much of her career telling stories rooted in the landscapes, communities and social realities of the mountains. She wrote and directed the acclaimed Hindi feature film Daayen Ya Baayen, which examines ecological degradation, migration and changing aspirations in the Himalayan region. Her literary work includes short fiction that brings together human emotion, humour, melancholy and a deep sense of place. Her collection The Tree With Eyes and Other Stories explores grief, loss, migration, ecological change and the gradual erosion of belonging, presenting the mountains as an active presence rather than simply a backdrop. Negi is also associated with Nitric Films and founded the Leafbird Foundation, which works with rural Himalayan communities through education, environmental awareness and livelihood initiatives. Her work continues to highlight the people, stories and changing realities of the Himalayas
