Mohammed Hanif is a Pakistani novelist, journalist, and screenwriter known for his sharp satire and bold political commentary. Born in Okara, Pakistan, he joined the Pakistan Air Force Academy before leaving to pursue a career in journalism. Hanif later worked with prominent media organizations, including the BBC, where he served as head of the Urdu Service. He gained international recognition with his debut novel, A Case of Exploding Mangoes, a darkly comic exploration of the mysterious plane crash that killed General Zia-ul-Haq. The novel was shortlisted for major literary awards and praised for its wit and fearless critique of power. Hanif’s other works, including Our Lady of Alice Bhatti and Red Birds, continue to explore themes of politics, religion, identity, and social injustice in Pakistan. Through satire and compelling storytelling, he has established himself as one of the most influential contemporary voices in Pakistani English literature
