ONAIZA DRABU BOOKS

ONAIZA DRABU BOOKS

Onaiza Drabu is a Kashmiri anthropologist, writer, translator and cultural researcher whose work explores language, folklore, literature and the many layers of cultural identity. Born and raised in Kashmir, she grew up surrounded by English, Urdu and Kashmiri, an experience that shaped her enduring interest in language, storytelling and cultural traditions. Her writing often draws attention to Kashmir’s rich but under-documented oral heritage, bringing forgotten stories, myths and traditions to contemporary readers. Her first book, The Legend of Himal and Nagrai and Other Stories, published in 2019, is a collection of retold Kashmiri folktales that celebrates the region’s storytelling traditions. She has also worked on projects that make Kashmiri language and culture accessible to younger generations, including Okus Bokus: A to Z for Kashmiri Children. Drabu is also the co-founder of Code Switch Consulting, where she works as an anthropologist and semiotician focusing on cultural and consumer insights. Her work bridges scholarship, storytelling and cultural preservation
