PERCIVAL EVERETT BOOKS

Percival Everett is a prolific and critically acclaimed American author, best known for his genre-defying works that challenge literary conventions and explore themes of identity, race, language, and the absurdities of modern life. Born in 1956 in Fort Gordon, Georgia, Everett was raised in Columbia, South Carolina, and later studied philosophy and fiction, earning degrees from the University of Miami and Brown University. With a career spanning over three decades, Everett has published more than thirty books, including novels, short story collections, and poetry, each demonstrating his remarkable versatility, intellectual depth, and sharp wit. His writing is characterized by a fearless exploration of form and subject matter, often weaving satire, metafiction, and philosophical inquiry into narratives that are as thought-provoking as they are entertaining.
Everett’s best-known works include *Erasure*, a biting critique of the publishing industry's expectations of Black writers; *I Am Not Sidney Poitier*, a humorous and satirical exploration of race and identity; and *The Trees*, a darkly comedic and powerful novel about America’s legacy of racial violence, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Through his inventive storytelling and refusal to be pigeonholed, Everett confronts readers with uncomfortable truths and invites them to question societal norms and the boundaries of literature itself.
In addition to his literary work, Everett is a distinguished academic, serving as a professor of English at the University of Southern California. His contributions to contemporary American literature have earned him numerous honors, including the PEN Center USA Award for Fiction, the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Despite his extensive body of work and critical acclaim, Everett remains an enigmatic and somewhat elusive figure, often shunning the spotlight in favor of letting his work speak for itself. Through his fearless originality and unwavering commitment to truth-telling, Percival Everett continues to influence and inspire readers and writers around the world.
