Rashmi Anand is an author, counsellor, consultant, and social worker, who has been working with issues of gender based violence since 2005.
18 years ago, Rashmi Anand walked away from a violent, abusive marriage with two small children, and no financial support whatsoever. She works today with the very issues that devastated the lives of her children and her. Having voluntarily counselled hundreds of women at the Crime Against Women Cell of Delhi Police at Nanakpura New Delhi over a period of five years, as well as at a personal level, she has tried to make sure that no woman who approaches her for help endures what she has been through. Today, Rashmi runs her own NGO — Woman of the Elements Trust — which works with women and children impacted by domestic violence.
She has been on social awareness shows on CNN IBN, NDTV's Salaam Zindagi, Doordarshan, Rajya Sabha TV, and Lok Sabha TV, among others. Her story was also featured in Season One of Satyamev Jayate. Moreover, her journey has been a covered in articles and documentaries across the world —Mexico, Sweden, France and New Zealand, amongst others.
The Delhi Police 2010 calendar was based on her first book and on her life. Rashmi has also been featured in the book “Women of Pure Wonder”, a special edition from Vodafone and Roli Books showcasing the life and work of 50 extraordinary Women of India. An issue of the Chicken Soup for the Soul inspirational series of books carries the story of her life, entitled ‘Awakening’. The published author of 13 books on gender violence, love, abundance, joy, hope, the human spirit, life and death, Rashmi also writes children’s books.
