She weaves through the traffic, fresh flowers in hand. He brings your chai in a bustling tea-stall. Before you can ask their names, they disappear in the crowd.
On the streets of India, you often find a curious sight: chirpy kids scurrying about, catering to your every need, be it an urgent bicycle repair or a quick caffeine fix, their eyes sparkling with hopes and dreams.
They’re small - so small, they slip through the cracks. They are everywhere, yet they are invisible.
Chhotu, a collection of ten tales, is a glimpse into the world of every ‘Chhotu’ - the child behind the name, the broken-tooth smile, and their untold story of hope, resilience, and rebellion.
Do you remember the last Chhotu you met? Did you ask him his name?

About the Author

Aseem Kumar is a first-generation entrepreneur, philanthropist, and passionate storyteller whose life journey-from wearing Bata shoes on Ranchi’s streets to building boardroom empires-mirrors the very themes of hope, grit, and transformation that shape his debut book Chhotu.
Raised in the industrial heart of Ranchi, Aseem’s early life was marked by modest means and outsized dreams. He rose through the ranks with resilience and drive, eventually founding Kaurub Exports, a successful venture built from the ground up without financial backing or legacy advantage. Alongside his business success, Aseem has remained deeply rooted in social responsibility-his company is inclusive of disabled workers and committed to uplifting communities across Jharkhand, Delhi and NCR.
Chhotu is a reflection of his lived empathy, born not from theory but from a life spent observing and engaging with the children who serve, hustle, and vanish into the margins of Indian society. In giving them a voice, he also gives them dignity. His philanthropic work, passion for equality, and keen understanding of India’s socio-economic divides breathe life into each character.
