Is culture transferred through food? Does Islam have a particular flavour? Why is the Muslim world perceived to be so indulgently carnivorous?

The eloquent essays in Critical Muslim: Food in Islam not only explore the varied delights of international Muslim cuisine, but also the option of going  back to nature. In short, these essays ask, how does food relate to the true spirit of Islam? What does it say? To whom does it speak?
