Mr. Boz and the Boi is a delightful tale of a plucky Dachshund and his beloved human friend, the Boi, big-eyed, arty, dog-loving writer, Carmelina Marisa de Sousa’s, deeply loved nephew. It is set in an undisclosed gorgeous village of Goa resplendent with fruit trees, dense forest cover and a multitude of local birds and one splendidly immense and beautiful butterfly, the Malabar tree nymph. The book which has been lushly illustrated in bold clean lines and colors brings alive a sweet story of friendship between generations, dog and man, and the love of nature, animals and children. If R K Narayan lived in Goa he may have imagined and written a book like this. Simple, old-worldly and yet timeless and true. I’d highly recommend this to anyone with young children who may not yet have bitten the reading bug and families from India and abroad who want to get a whiff of what it must mean to live, grow, work, and raise families both human and otherwise in this singularly beauteous and laid back part of our country and world.
