In 2018, Imagicaa turned into a non-performing asset. Within no time, a lender dragged the company to the National Company Law Tribunal courts.
When newly appointed CEO Dhimant and CFO Mayuresh received the NCLT summons, they were taken aback. The project was the realisation of a long-held dream, and it needed to be protected from a dire fate: insolvency, or a possible lockout of India's best theme park.
Thus began their arduous battle to rescue the beloved company. From visiting banks and government officials almost daily to managing cash flows and supporting the most vulnerable members of their staff, they found themselves handling a crisis every day as they searched for a white knight who would pump sufficient funds into the company in the hope of a turnaround.
This search led them to the underbelly of Mumbai suburbs, to fake investment offices, to last-minute trips to Malaysia with demanding brokers and what not!

About the Author

Dhimant Bakshi is the CEO of Imagicaaworld Entertainment Ltd. An INSEAD alumnus, he has also worked with Reliance Retail, Shoppers Stop, Future Group and Globus in a career spanning three decades. He is an advisory board member with Antarang foundation, creating a platform for an equitable future for the youth. Dhimant actively mentors companies facing challenging situations, providing guidance in turnarounds and growth. He is also a sounding board for culture building for start-ups. He believes in happiness and creating delightful memories, both professionally and personally.
Mayuresh Kore is the CFO of Imagicaaworld Entertainment Ltd. In a career spanning twenty- three years, he has worked in investment banking, entrepreneurship, new businesses and corporate finance. He has interests in media and entertainment, hospitality and real estate, having run a project to develop a six-storey building on ancestral land in Mumbai first hand.
An avid cricketer, he has managed a legacy Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA)-affiliated club for the last two decades and hopes that he can play competitive cricket for few more years!
