Shaheen Bagh: A Graphic Recollection is a graphic account of the most famous political sit-in of recent times, which started on one side of a public thoroughfare in Delhi in December 2019 and continued till March 2020 when it was cleared by the police after the government declared a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19.
About the Author
Ita Mehrotra is an Indian graphic novelist, visual artist, researcher, and educator based in New Delhi whose work centers on socio‑political movements, feminist perspectives, and community storytelling through non‑fiction comics and illustrated narratives. Her acclaimed book Shaheen Bagh: A Graphic Recollection (Yoda Press, 2021), which brought together moments and memories from the Anti‑CAA protests in India, established her voice in contemporary graphic literature. She is also the author of Uprooted: A Graphic Account of the Struggle for Forest Rights, a powerful, visually driven exploration of forest‑dwelling communities and their struggles for land and rights that blends personal observation with historical context. Over the past decade, her non‑fiction comics and illustrated stories have been published and exhibited widely with platforms and institutions such as The Wire, Goethe‑Institut, Fumetto Festival Lucerne, Zubaan Books, Ad Astra Comix, and KHOJ Artists Association, among others. In addition to her artistic practice, Mehrotra leads community art programmes, works with marginalised groups, and has served as visiting faculty at institutions like Ashoka University.
