Nouneh Sarkissian, born in Yerevan, Armenia is a writer, art historian, artist, philanthropist, and a cultural and public figure. She is the author of around 30 books, translated into 28 languages. Her book The Adventures of Bluey and Pinky - Book 1, written with her granddaughter Savannah Sarkissian, was nominated by IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People), for the IBBY Honour list 2022, as an ‘Outstanding Book’. Her books have also been selected for inclusion among the top picture books chosen by librarians of IFLA (The International Federation of Library Associations) for the World Through Picture Books programme. Her book The Three Dragons, was among the final 300 winners (the final 15 per cent) in the ‘Write A Story for Children’ competition of The Academy of Children’s Writers in the UK, in 2006. Nouneh Sarkissian’s The Magic Buttons, published in 2020 and The Three Dragons are included in National Children’s Library’s ‘Most Read Books’ list of 2022, and she is among the Library’s ‘Most Read 20 Authors’ list in Yerevan. Some of Nouneh Sarkissian’s stories are turned into puppet shows and ballet and are regularly presented to young audiences in Armenia. In 2018, she received the highest-ranking honour from the Republic of Italy–Cavalier di Gran Croce (Dame of Grand Cross), and in 2019, she was appointed High-Level Advocate for Children by UNICEF in Armenia. She was nominated for the IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) – Hans Christian Andersen Award 2020. And she is a nominee for IBBY Hans Christian Andersen Award 2024.
