About The Author
Ruskin Bond, born in Kasauli in 1934, grew up in Jamnagar, Dehradun, New Delhi, and Shimla. He began his literary journey at a young age, writing his first novel, The Room on the Roof, when he was just seventeen years old. The novel went on to win the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize in 1957, marking the beginning of a distinguished writing career. Since then, Bond has authored more than 500 short stories, essays, and novellas, including acclaimed works such as Vagrants in the Valley and A Flight of Pigeons, as well as over forty books for children. Widely regarded as one of India's most beloved authors, he has received numerous honors for his contribution to literature, including the Sahitya Akademi Award for English writing in India in 1992, the Padma Shri in 1999, the Delhi Government's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.
