About the Author

Chitrita Banerji, a food historian and novelist, grew up in Calcutta and received her master’s degree in English from Harvard University. She is the author of several books on the food and culture of Bengal and India, including Eating India. She has written for publications such as Granta, Gourmet, Gastronomica, the New York Times and the Boston Globe, and received awards at the Oxford Symposium of Food and Cookery. Her novel, Mirror City, set in newly liberated Bangladesh, was published by Penguin in 2014. Chitrita Banerji lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
