About the Author

Bernard Roth is co-founder and Academic Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford University and the Rodney H. Adams Professor of Engineering. Bernie grew up in New York City. He graduated in mechanical engineering from the City College of New York (CCNY). He earned a master's degree and a PhD in mechanical engineering from Columbia University. In 2012, Columbia University's Engineering School Alumni Association awarded him the prestigious Egleston Medal for Distinguished Engineering Achievement.
