Throughout this book, you’ll encounter dialogues-some real, others imagined-that bring investing to life through characters who challenge, provoke and amuse. Vikram and Betal wrestle with paradoxes. Bholu embodies the linear thinking common to many retail investors. Alongside them, the Buddha and Mahavir lend their voices as Maneesh Dangi explores probabilistic thinking counterfactuals, iterative processes and the layered truths of market cycles-ideas rooted in our ethos. You’ll also meet Vijay from Agneepath, who risks everything for conviction; the Joker, who thrives in chaos; and Thanos, who sees markets as governed by brutal discipline.
Booms, Busts and Market Cycles is one of the few books on investing that offers investors a framework to navigate market cycles, avoid losses and create long-term wealth. It busts various myths surrounding investing and critically analyses different investing approaches, highlighting their advantages and drawbacks. From how ‘buy stocks slowly and sell fast’ works, to why asset allocators must do the reverse-buy markets quickly and sell slowly-this book offers a blend of rules, reflections and reframing. It is not a
book of formulas. It’s a book of ideas-drawn from markets, guided by Indian tradition, shaped by Dangi’s own experiences and written for those who believe investing is as much about understanding oneself as it is about understanding the world. Not a technical manual, Booms, Busts and Market Cycles is a deeper exploration of the craft of managing money-a delicate balance of art and science.
MANEESH DANGI is the founder and CEO of Mosaic AMC, an emerging asset management frm focused on private capital strategies. Before Mosaic, he was co-chief investment officer (CIO) at Aditya Birla Sun Life Asset Management, where he led a team of fund managers overseeing over $25 billion in assets across portfolios.
Recognized among India’s top investors, Maneesh has been named best CIO by Asia Asset Management (2016, 2018) and best fund manager by S&P CRISIL (2011). He has also been listed nine times as ‘Most Astute Investor’ by The Asset (Hong Kong). He serves on the advisory board of the IIM Udaipur Centre for Financial Research, and has taught security analysis and portfolio management to second-year MBA students at IIM Mumbai.
Born to a now retired banker, Maneesh’s childhood was shaped across small towns and villages in Rajasthan. He is happily married and the proud father of two gifted boys. He lives in Mumbai.
