Your true crime fix with a desi spin
From honour killings and cannibalism to corporate espionage and cultish conspiracies, the hosts of India’s most popular true crime podcast, The Desi Crime Podcast, bring you twenty chilling cases from across South Asia – including two never aired before.
Join Aishwarya and Aryaan as they uncover hidden details of infamous cases that grabbed headlines around the world – and those that did not. Dive into the Burari mass suicides; the assassination of the T-Series founder by Mumbai mobsters; the burying alive of a socialite by a false godman; serial killing of 100 boys in Pakistan; Delhi’s abominable tandoor murder and many more.
Rummage through conflicting theories and cold cases with your favourite duo in a brand-new format – let the amateur sleuthing begin!
Aishwarya Singh is half the voice behind Desi Crime and the co-founder of Desi Studios, a production house she affectionately calls “South Asia’s adrenal gland.” What began as a college side project-an attempt to carve space for South Asian crime stories in a Western-dominated podcasting landscape-quickly became her full-time pursuit. By the time law school applications were due, Desi Crime had begun to make a mark in India, prompting her to trade legal dreams for a microphone and launch a production company at 23. A political science and philosophy graduate with a past life in nuclear weapons policy, she now crafts gripping narratives that uncover dark corners of South Asian history and society.
Having lived in 14 cities across 4 countries and 4 continents, Aishwarya has now calls India home. In her free time, you can find her at the nearest gym or browsing through luxury real estate she cannot afford, with the seriousness of a seasoned buyer. An ardent lover of wine, she’ll be the first to admit she’s mostly faking any real understanding of it.
Aryaan forms the less funny half of Desi Crime, which might have something to do with his nerdy beginnings. He was all set to become a biologist when he designed an experiment for NASA in high school that was carried out aboard the ISS, but it has been downhill since. He attempted a biology degree in college in Michigan, but dropped out to chase his dreams (money, fame and love) in New York. He found neither. His early adult days were characterized by being a Fox News free speech contributor and working on an investigative crime show. The search for meaning continued as he hopped around the world living nomadically in Africa and Europe, only to return home to start a production house. Desi Crime has allowed him to blend his love for storytelling - both writing and narrating.
Nowadays he lives in Mumbai, but squanders his rent by traveling half the time to the Arctic and Syria most recently. He tries to look mysterious, but he’s lost. Currently he’s working as a writer on films and making IPs of all kinds. He likes jumping rope, drinking coffee, and publishing pseudo intellectual video essays. Most of his time is spent wondering if he peaked in high school when he played Shylock in an Urdu play.
