On 27 April 1959, The handsome naval commander ka was Nanavati was told by his wife Sylvia that she was having an affair. That evening Nanavati stormed sylvia’s lover Prem Ahuja’s bedroom and shut the door behind him. Three gunshots were heard going off inside. Ahuja was dead.Ahuja’s murder set in motion an extraordinary public and media frenzy, and pitted the executive against the judiciary. In this laboriously researched book, part thriller and Part courtroom drama, Bachi Karkaria gives us the most comprehensive account of the Nanavati case and the legal crises to which it gave birth. This book clears the fog of conspiracy theories and tells the true story of the case that shook India.

Review

Gripping initially and gets boring later on with unnecessary and unrelated sidelines of the story connecting to present day stories. Nevertheless a good read. Especially of the trial. Though would have appreciated a little more in-depth research into the allegations that were shown in Rustom movie vis-a-vis the backend deals, if any. Did corruption at the highest level play a part or was it just entitlement of highly placed acquaintances? James A.
