Review

'A sad book about India is made sadder still by the lack of an effectively curative movement. I hope Sanjay Jha's reasoned call for progressive political change helps to generate a much-needed response.'

-Amartya Sen

'Sanjay Jha's 2014: The Great Unravelling is a gripping book that captures the drama of the 2014 general election and the politics that preceded and followed. A party spokesman's first-hand account gives it an unusual authenticity. An insightful and interesting read.'

-S.Y. Quraishi

'From the Teflon quality of Prime Minister Modi's politics to the Congress's failure to provide a counter-narrative, Sanjay Jha's book is an insider's account at the great churn in how elections are fought, won and lost. If you are interested in politics, do read this book. Agree or disagree, but read it as a student and observer of the contemporary India.'

-Barkha Dutt

'Sanjay Jha takes an incisive look at a decisive period in the country's polity. He may have been apolitical "insider" but spares no one in his thoughtful and objective analysis of contemporary politics.'

-Rajdeep Sardesai

'From such books as The Great Unravelling rise the call for action, for change. Read it. It will make you think about where we are heading. And it's not a pretty place.'

-Pritish Nandy

'Jha's introspective, readable and well-intentioned book should be made compulsory reading in the Congress party.'

-Pavan K. Varma

'Most of the coverage that [Sanjay] Jha's The Great Unravelling has received has focussed solely on Sanjay's criticisms of the Congress. But there is also an excellent dissection of the state of today's India and the current regime. It's a very good book. A must-read.'

-Vir Sanghvi

'A masterpiece on contemporary politics of India written by someone who is the master of his craft.'

-Greater Kashmir

'As a helpless witness to Congress's second crushing defeat at the hands of the BJP, Jha painstakingly chronicles the journey of the saffron party from its failures to becoming a champion of muscular nationalism.'

-Deccan Herald

'Jha's book effectively puts to rest that he could be in league with the grand old party's bitter political rival, the BJP.'

-The Hindu

'It is a devastating insider's account of the party that should be doing so much more.'

-The Telegraph

'Will The Great Unravelling help the Congress regain its lost vision and emit a ray of hope for Jha and several Indians for the revival of Mahatma Gandhi's India? If not, permanent blindness shall be the only outcome for the Congress Party with no modern Sanjaya by its side, unlike Mahabharata's King Dhritarashtra.'

-Free Press Journal

'Jha structures his narrative like a seasoned batsman would pace a good inning. The Great Unravelling is an earnest treatise from a former Congress party member asking questions that remain unanswered.'

-The New Indian Express
